Did you know that Italian is the first language of over 63 million people worldwide – including me?
It’s also the second language of another 3 million people and one of the most studied foreign languages in the world. Often referred to as the official “language of love”, Italian also claims the title of the language with the sexiest accent! And yes, I will fight the French on that one.
I have a true passion for the Italian language (it’s my mother tongue after all!) and so I will make sure you can be clearly understood, can understand what’s being said to you and hold a real conversation with any Italian speaker. After all, what’s the point of knowing what the Italian word for ‘asparagus’ is if you can’t use it in a conversation?
What You Get With Italian Lessons
The Language Tavern is built around flexibility, so I can design a learning programme based around you. I can offer classes to groups of people, or work on a one-to-one basis to help you achieve your goals.
My approach is very much conversation-based, so some of our lessons together might look like ‘sitting down and having a chat’ with coffee and biscuits, but I guarantee you’ll come away with a more effective and functional understanding of the language than anyone trying to learn from a textbook. It’s a communicative and immersive method of teaching that helps you to learn Italian in context, in writing and listening to it, so that you can learn how to deal with real-life situations. And if you’re more of an analytics person, I do have a degree in linguistics, so I can dissect grammar and syntax rules all day long!
Lessons can be done in person or by Zoom, and I’m very flexible to accommodate busy schedules or even different time zones – I do a lot of work with American Italians wanting to connect with their roots. I provide authentic materials for my lessons, and encourage you to not only learn the Italian language, but also the culture, the heritage and even the food of the country. Though I may be a little biased on that last part!
